Breathe new life into your interior with houseplants
- by Mark Snijders
It's no secret that plants can bring a vibrant and fresh atmosphere to any room in your home. But did you know that they can also contribute to your interior design? Here are some creative ways to use houseplants in your interior design strategy.
1. Create a focal point
Large, bold plants such as the Monstera Deliciosa or the Ficus Lyrata can serve as a focal point in a room. Their unique leaves and impressive size attract attention and can fill an empty corner or unused space.
2. Use plants to introduce color
Flowering plants such as orchids, begonias or pansies can add a pop of color to an otherwise neutral space. The leaves of some plants, such as Calathea, can also add an array of vibrant colors.
3. Play with textures
The different textures of plants can create visually interesting contrasts in your interior. Combine plants with large, glossy leaves such as the Rubber Plant with plants that have more detailed, finer leaves, such as ferns.
4. Use plants to divide spaces
Plants can also act as natural room dividers, dividing open spaces into different sections without the need for a wall or screen. Long, tall plants such as the Dracaena, or even a group of smaller plants on a plant stand, can fulfill this role.
5. Take advantage of hanging plants
If floor space is an issue, why not look up? Hanging plants such as Pothos, String of Pearls or Spider Plant can be placed in hanging baskets or on hooks on the ceiling.
Incorporating plants into your interior design can be a fun and rewarding task. And don't forget that plants aren't just aesthetically pleasing – they also help improve air quality and can even contribute to your mental well-being. So get started and bring some green into your home!
